What To Do If You Have a Recalled Product?

If you find a recalled food in your home, don’t panic. Most food recalls are issued because the food could potentially be contaminated, not because food recalls are associated with food illness outbreak.

Even though the food product may have been recalled as a precautionary measure, it is best to be safe and not eat it. If you open or handle the product, remember to immediately wash your hands thoroughly with warm, soapy water for 20 seconds or for two choruses of “Happy Birthday.”

Check recall notices for instructions on what to do with the food. When a manufacturer recalls an item, they provide instructions on what to do, such as returning the food to where you bought it or how to dispose of properly.
